On August 19, 2020, Karakorum Integrated Rural Development Organization (KIRDO) in collaboration with Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP) celebrated World Humanitarian Day in District Gilgit. The purpose of celebrating the World Humanitarian Day was to pay tribute to the real-life heroes who have committed their lives to helping others, especially during COVID-19 pandemic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, aid workers, health-care responders, and police are on the front line to protect people from the pandemic.
KIRDO volunteers distributed masks among the vulnerable people, and celebrated this day with police in a check post, which is the entry point to Gilgit city and other districts. During the campaign, tourists coming from other cities of Pakistan were sensitized to follow the SOP’s and wear masks during their visit to various cites of Gilgit Baltistan. Masks were distributed among police personal who are in the front line to give guidance and ensure the visitors in GB are following the SOP’s to stop the spread of virus.
In this campaign, the cooperation of police force with the KIRDO volunteers was extraordinary, and they were very happy to see the young volunteers raising awareness. The masks and banners for this activity was donated by Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP).
During COVID-19 pandemic, KIRDO is actively engaged in protecting the people from the virus. Our volunteers have distributed thousands of masks among people, and raising awareness among the masses. KIRDO is disinfecting hospitals, markets, and other public places by conducting anti-germs spray in Gilgit Baltistan.
