ADDRESSING DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT DURING COVID-19 IN GILGIT-BALTISTAN

Karakorum Integrated Rural Development Organization (KIRDO) is working on a project entitled “Addressing Labor Market Discrimination in The COVID-19 Response in Gilgit-Baltistan” The aim of the project is to address Labor Market Discrimination in response to COVID-19 in Gilgit, Gilgit-Baltistan. The project is funded by Equal Rights Trust (ERT), the implementing partner is Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and the project is implemented by KIRDO in Gilgit.

The project activities include awareness raising and advocacy campaigns to sensitize rights holders and duty-bearers about labor laws, and national and international conventions. The proposed project is amid at addressing the issue of discrimination in Gilgit Baltistan where during COVID-19 pandemic, discrimination based on gender, religion, disability, ethnicity, political opinion and health status continues. The proposed project is amid at identifying cases and patterns of discrimination, documenting and monitoring cases of discrimination and awareness-raising and advocacy to effectively implement the labour laws in GB. The government officials, civil society groups, and religious groups will be sensitized about the issue and collective measures will be taken to change discriminatory laws.
